Driven by our passion for the sea, we have a goal of making electric boats and yachts ubiquitous. We believe that would only be possible if they become cost competitive with conventional vessels. We were unimpressed and fed up by overpriced electric vessels with their unnecessary pageantry, so we started Helios Marine with the mission to change that.
With 15 years of experience in the renewable energy business and a thorough understanding of solar and battery storage technologies, we are achieving this goal by utilizing the latest technological developments in solar panels, batteries, electric motors, and other components, and adopting a “no frills” design approach.
Who We Are
Helios Marine was founded by Drago Enchev, an avid yachtsman with significant experience in the marine and automotive sectors, and Dimitar Enchev, an entrepreneur and investor in the energy space with over €3 billion of successfully realized projects in cleantech, renewable energy, battery storage, and green hydrogen. The company is backed by PostScriptum Ventures, a leading investment firm focused on the energy transition.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does an electric boat compare to a gas boat?
Electric boats are environmentally friendly, more reliable, cheaper to operate and maintain, and dramatically better integrated digitally than conventional vessels. They allow you to enjoy the waters without the release of harmful emissions and other pollutants.
When can I get a Helios?
Helios boats are made to order. You can inquire about yours here.
Where are the Helios boats made?
Helios boats are designed and made in the EU. Our batteries are assembled in the EU (using Tier 1 Chinese cells). Our motors are designed and manufactured in the EU.
How can I charge a Helios boat?
Helios boats with solar panels charge automatically when the sun is available. All boats also include an industry-standard charging port (CCS1), allowing you to charge in all marinas and docks with electricity.
How long does a Helios boat take to charge?
It varies from boat to boat, and it depends on charging infrastructure. The 240V available in most marinas will charge our boats overnight in most cases.
Are Helios boats safe given that electricity and water don't mix well?
All our boats are using a “safe-to-touch” 48dc electrical architecture. Our battery packs and electrical systems are watertight, heavily reinforced and constantly monitored.
How does maintenance compare to conventional boats?
Other than standard cleaning and anti-fouling, Helios boats are practically maintenance-free.
What about fire safety?
We are firm believers that the chemistry in today’s LiFePo4 battery packs, generally intended to be used for Solar Storage, is the way forward for the marine industry. Being one of the safest battery technologies available today, it showcases perfect charge and discharge properties. A concern for reaching high temperature is highly unlikely as stability of the voltage is attained regardless of the SOC of the pack.
Are your batteries modular? Can I extend in the future?
Our JAM (Just Add Module) plug-and-play allows you to expand the capacity and/or voltage so you have the flexibility to create and fit for your needs. Even more than that, our state-of-the-art software lets you configure your batteries bringing you the option for a bespoke solution.
What about LFP's energy density?
We’ve seen LiFePo4 overcome a previous obstacle as well – the small energy density compared to other options which discarded the use of it for E-mobility. The density of the LiFePo4 today is already on par with other types of Li-Ion batteries keeping the advantages that give it edge – Safety and really SOL. A solid testimony being that the biggest automotive companies have started to integrate the strategy and create their EVs with LiFePo4.
